Between Dream and Delusion: Storm (2010)
for CD
Between Dream and Delusion: Storm is my first electronic piece, written as a final project for an electro-acoustic music class. The piece explores the state of hypnagogia - the transitional state between wakefulness and sleep, commonly referred to as being “half-awake, half-asleep.” During this phase it is common to experience sensory phenomena, including hearing faint, barely-audible noises or loud, startling sounds. Many of these phenomena are visual as well as auditory, and can also include vivid dreams or hallucinations. In this piece the subject drifts in and out of sleep during a thunderstorm and begins hearing ominous and unattributed sounds. As the title suggests, the subject’s sensory perceptions lay somewhere between a harmless dream and delusion.
